Methadone may cause life threatening heart rhythm disturbances

Recent evidence suggests that methadone may cause a dose dependant increase in the cardiac QT interval, leading to an increased risk of developing "torsade de pointes", a form of ventricular arrhythmia which may lead to sudden death. See Methadone for more information.
